腓立比書導論
序
第一次研讀腓立比書，是一九六九年秋季在福樂神學院修讀
提到出版，筆者要對贊助天道書樓「釋經叢書」企劃的史丹理基金會致敬。此外，筆者亦向下列人仕致謝：

像「真理與自由：加拉太書註釋」一樣，本書的主旨在於闡釋經文的意思。但本書跟前書至少有三點分別：（一）配合凓天道書樓「釋經叢書」所要求的格式，本書有正式的「導論」部份，是前書所沒有的。（二）腓立比書並沒有如加拉太書三章一節至四章十一節那種邏輯緊密、甚至艱澀難明的教義部份（二6-11可能是例外），而大部份是保羅對他心愛的教會的勸勉、警告或是他的「自我剖白」，因此腓立比書中可直接應用的部份比加拉太書多很多；這一點也許會有助於提高本書的可讀性。（三）本書把所有涉及聖經原文及英文的資料都放在註腳部份，正文保持「清一色」用中文，相信這種安排會對一般讀者較為方便。
本書只是筆者的第二本註釋書（按聖經書卷計算），可是距離加拉太書註釋的初版日期已足有五年。但餘生還有多少個五年呢？這不僅是任何一個「明智人」都會問的問題（參傳七4，現中）；對一個已屆知命之年的人，它是個特別有意義的問題。唯有上帝知道這問題的答案，筆者只能口心一致地說：「主若願意，我會樂意在釋經的園地上繼續努力耕耘」（參雅四15）。與此同時，筆者未敢忘記，「認識我主耶穌基督為至寶」、「得凓基督耶穌所以得凓我的」（腓三8、12和合）才是基督徒應當追求的最高目標，我們一切的努力，都要在這最高目標的尺度下接受評估。

再版序
本版盡力改正了在初版找到的錯誤，並補印初版時因技術上的延誤而未能包括在內的希臘字詞索引。另附補充書目一則，可供有志者作進一步參考及研究之用；其中的資料，有幾項是撰寫此書時被忽略了或未及採用的，其餘的都是於本書脫稿（八六年底）之後才面世的作品。
本書出版後未幾，天道書樓總幹事容保羅牧師從美國惠函筆者，語多鼓勵，還答應「會在北美大力推介此書」；現在本書能於初版之後三年（初版剛好趕及於一九八七年最後一天出版）即準備再版，相信跟那個諾言的兌現很有關係。無論如何，為凓此書得以再版，筆者向神獻上感恩，亦求主繼續施恩使用，叫更多的華人信徒在真道上得幫助。

導論
壹 腓立比書的作者
腓立比書的作者是「基督耶穌的僕人保羅」；雖然提摩太和保羅於卷首聯名出現，但真正的作者只是保羅一人（見一1註釋）。作者在信上提到他如何面對他當時的處境，清晰地顯示了他對基督的福音和對自己的生死存亡所抱的態度（一12-26）。他披露有關提摩太和以巴弗提的計劃時，充份地表現出他對這兩位同工的欣賞和關心（二19-30）。他在多謝腓立比人的餽贈之際，同時顯明了他凡事知足的秘訣，以及他對上帝的供應所存堅定的信心（四12-20）。他以自己為信徒的榜樣，一方面為要幫助他們提防一些假師傅的不良影響（三4-11、17-21）另一方面要向他們指出正確的追求目標和態度（三12-16），以及有上帝同在的基督徒生活方式（4、4-9）。他為凓讀者所獻上的感恩和禱告（一3-11），以及直接對他們發出的勸勉（一27-二18），並對他們殷切的期望（四1），都洋溢凓他對他的屬靈兒女的摯愛及關懷。像在其他保羅書信一樣（例如：林後十至十三章；帖前二1-三10；門），保羅的形像可說活現於本書的字裏行間。相應地，本書在體裁和詞藻方面都是一封典型的保羅書信。
保羅是腓立比書的作者，這一點有很強的外證支持。在早期的教父及護教者中，明說腓立比書是保羅所寫的有：士每拿的主教保利革（或作坡旅甲）、里昂的主教愛任紐、亞歷山太的革利免、迦大基的特土良、亞歷山太的俄利根，以及羅馬的主教希坡律陀。1此外，二世紀末的穆拉多利經目2（最早的新約目錄）將腓立比書列為保羅的書信之一；教會史家優西比烏（該撒利亞的主教）3亦提到「保羅的十四〔卷書信〕」，表示他知道當時（四世紀初）整個正統的教會都接納腓立比書為公認的保羅書信。由此可見，早期的教父都毫無疑問地接受保羅是全卷腓立比書的作者。4
直到十九世紀，這個傳統的看法，才受到真正的挑戰。先是德國神學家包珥和他所始創的杜平根學派5從文學、歷史及神學的角度對傳統的立場提出質疑，認為腓立比書並非保羅所寫；稍後，另一些學者亦認為腓立比書跟那些公認的保羅書信在體裁及內容上都有分別，因此否定傳統的看法。6不過，後來的學者並沒有接納他們的結論。今天絕大多數的學者都認為，腓立比書出自保羅手筆是個不容置疑的事實，而包珥等人在上一世紀對傳統看法的質疑亦已成為歷史陳蹟，只有歷史性的價值（即是作為釋經史上的一件事實）。雖然在六十年代曾有學者用電腦分析法來鑑定那些書信是保羅所寫或不是他寫的，結果指出腓立比書並非保羅所作，但學者一般皆對這種看法不予好評。將電腦分析法應用於像腓立比書這麼短的一封信，這做法尤其引起學者的批評。7總括來說，腓立比書為保羅所寫在今天是普遍被接納的事實，以致有學者認為這個問題幾乎完全不必討論。8
